However, the costs of the learning material are favourable.  Especially, if you consider what you can earn. 

However, if you go for books, I would recommend...Art of Click, Ogilvy On Advertising, Breakthrough Advertising. 

If you prefer courses, then you have several options, depending on the type of copywriting you are interested in and on the level of your experience.

For beginners aim to become freelance copywriters, I would recommend the CCA course. For someone who already has an idea what copywriting is and had some trials, have a look on awai.com and choose one of their course. 

In case, you have no idea which direction you want to go, but you love the idea of earn money with copywriting, I'd recommend copyhackers.com.

They have some free courses, like Conversion Copywriting, so you can make your feet wet before paying and choosing definite direction.

 Even though, some people would call blogging easier than copywriting, it is not entirely true. 

You see, it is correct to say that blogging enjoys more informal language than copywriting. But by no means, you shall be writing as you think. 

There are certain "rules", you should keep in eye, when you want to be successful blogger. 

Learn, practice and never give up. 

Especially, if you will work on your own blog, you have to start from scratch. 

In other words, there will be no traffic, no people reading your content, and therefore no earnings.

If you don't have another gmail adres, I would encourage you to do so. Create one email adres especially for newsletters from companies in your niche.

That way, you can see what is working and what isn't.

If love for reading wasn't on your list, LOVE FOR WRITING had to be.

It makes totally sense, right?

In the end, it's copyWRITING.

However, when it comes to actual copywriting, some could be surprised about the writing volume.

You might say, that the Facebook ad from Microsoft has just one line.

True, but that's rather an exception. 

Additionally, you read that writing could be just 10% of the actual job. 

So, particularly in this case, the work was done on research.

Also, I don't think that the copywriter who wrote his one-liner is done for the rest of the week.

Most likely he would need to write other copy.

Maybe emails, product descriptions, or sales letter.

Not only actual writing is you need to do but also editing. 

If you are as the majority, you will hate this!

Unfortunately, there really isn't better way to get skilled at copywriting as to read after what you read! 

Believe it or not, the best way to do this, is to read it out of loud.

So, read aloud what you wrote, and you became better copywriter!

5 Steps to Write Your Copy

Ok, if you survived the description of personality you should be, bear with me.

In addition to expected qualities of copywriter, I am going to share with you, 5 Steps you can apply today, to improve your copywriting. 

Of course, there is much more, you need to know.

But those 5 steps can help you to get basics good. 

Benefits over Features

I am sure you heard that a lot.

When you write any (copy) material meant to sell, people want to know benefits rather than features.

In other words, they want to know how it will help them and not what it does.

Yeah, humans are just lazy.

So, make their life easier, by telling them what benefits they'll have after buying the product you promote. 

Don't make it too hard for them to find it out. 

Chances are, you will losse them.

People will buy the outcome of the product or service. They won't buy what it does.

Of course, it will need some time before you master this skill.

Important is to be aware and start using it.

4 U's in Headline

Unique. Useful. Urgent. Ultra-Specific.

I have learn this from the book Art of Click, but every copywriter uses more or less same technique.

Previously you read that at least 80% of people who land on your copy won't pass by your headline.

What can you do to make sure those 20% will stay?

Try to use 2-4 of the 4 U's, and more people will scroll to the button of your copy.

If not to the button, at least to the body.

Giuseppe Verdi in Your Lead

You don't have to write a hymn about the famous Italian composer.

What you should use in the lead of your copy is abbreviation of one of his operas.

AIDA.

Attention.

Interest.

Desire.

Action.

80 % of people will stop reading your content after reading your headline.

I don't know how many people will drop after reading your lead, but it is safe to say that great lead, will increase readability of your copy.

Regardless of your format, keeping AIDA as your pattern, while writing your lead, is vital for success of your copy.

So What?

Asking this question after your sentence will make your copy specific.

If you use this question three times after each other without sufficient answer, you need to stop writing.

You see, most likely, what you've written, sucks. 

Get some fresh air, cup of coffee or watch Netflix series and start again.

Some copywriters call this process, 3 strikes.

Same as in Baseball.

In ideal case, you want to use this in parts of your copy, where you'll be writing about benefits of the product or service. In that case, your sentences really need to be specific and "hit the target".

Keep It Short (and) Simple is another saying that will help make your copy more powerful.

Especially, when it comes to online copy, people like to read short text.

Therefore, you'll see many creators choose for one sentences rather than long paragraphs.

It is essential to often practice, hone your skills, and seek feedback from industry professionals to improve.

As far as there are humans on the other end of the screen, human copywriters would be needed. There isn't automated tool that can create emotions.

After that, they will create "new content" based on your need. You can give "commands" to your AI writing assistant based on the keyword, content need  and the length.

Then you don't really need to learn to affiliate marketing, although you still can.

Who wouldn't want to pick extra $$$ if they are on the table?

However, just to see it from the pure perspective of which one is easier, I don't think there is a clear answer.

Let me show you why.

Firstly, we can see it from the view if affiliate marketers, they might say, COPYWRITING IS EASIER.

Copywriting requires basic writing skills and a willingness to learn more, but does not require any specialised training or technical knowledge like affiliate marketing does.

Copywriting also relies heavily on creativity and storytelling ability, which can be developed quickly with practice.

On the other hand, affiliate marketing takes longer to understand and master due to its reliance on customer behaviour, data analysis, and the ability to craft effective campaigns that will convert customers into paying customers.

Far away are the times, when writing a blog with keyword, link, and one picture was enough. You need other, more sophisticated ways to rank and to reach out to people. 

But taking it from the copywriters point of view, they might say AFFILIATE MARKETING IS EASIER.

Why?

In case your headlines or lead will not be read, you failed as copywriter.

So, you have just those couple of lines, for convincing the readers, to proceed to next lines.

Will you achieve it? 

Great you are onto next level, but will you not...you have no work.

Then there is a content.

Affiliate Marketers can choose video marketing, and they don't need to WRITE A SINGLE TEXT LINE.

Copywriters have to write. Not only this, but they have to write in super creative, original and unique way.

Therefore, it depends on what personality you are.

So, there is not a clear answer to that.

For instance, if you are copywriter and you write for huge corporate, and in addition to this you are experienced, you will earn much more that starting copywriter, writing for solopreneurs.

Also, if you are affiliate marketer and you spent enough time to learn SEO writing, can drive tons of traffic to your offers and you promote high-ticket products, chances are you will earn much more that affiliates without huge audience, and with low-ticket offers.

My advice would be thought : don't focus on the amount you can earn, rather what you will like doing on longer term.

Before, the money would come, you need to learn the skill.

Usually, you will learn easier, something you like, that task that's boring and you are doing it pure, because of money.

Lastly, learning both skills can offer you higher earning potential over the longer period.

And learning some basic copywriting, won't hurt you as an affiliate.

Contrary, to that, it will help you to drive more traffic.

Moreover, it will help you to convert this traffic into customers.

Lead is important at least as much as headline.

If I would write my content jam-packed, sentence, after sentence, you will enjoy it less. You can trust me on this. Actually, we can do a small test. Do you find the text easy to be read? I know, it is much harder as the lines and paragraphs. And this is just some small piece of text, but imagine, that I would add here some technical terms, like manufactured oil-hydraulic compressed machine leveraging from the earth resistant minerals has much longer durability as its polyvinyl chloride made opponents. Your eyes and your brain are just much faster tired and therefore you can't concentrate for very long. Not to mention the fact, that if I would keep writing the long sentences, without proper spacing and without dividing them into more sentences, you just wouldn't cope with the content anymore. Don't forget, we are living in the digital era, where people search for instant help and they don't have a time to read all of your lines, so be sure what they skim, will be valuable.

On the other hand.

If I would choose, short, yet powerful sentences, readability would be easier.

Am I right?

I know, I am.

We are living in the fast era.

On the other side, programs in which you want to invest your time and energy are those without empty promises. 

In other words, platforms that are rather humble and will teach you, step-by-step affiliate marketing. 

Step-by-step meaning, doing the dirty work of writing, finding affiliate deals, and reaching out to your audience. 

Believe me one thing, your affiliate success won't happen overnight. 

Nor in the weeks of time. 

So, it is essential to have someone next to you, who will guide you throughout this process.

After checking each individual (recommended) program you'll see that all of them do emphasize the importance of writing. 

You don't have to aspire to become the new Hemingway, but you should know how to write. 

What Kind of Writing do I need to master if I want to be successful in affiliate marketing?

When we talk about affiliate marketing, you would most likely come to meet two types of writing: blogging and copywriting. 

(further the way, there might be email marketing, but that's mix of blogging and copywriting)

Blogging is much easier to master than writing poetry, essays, or novels. 

Due to its lengths.

Rarely, you will write a blog post above 3000 words. (On average it will be 1000-2000 words.)

Also, the fact that blogging is "just written small-talk" chat makes it easier for you to master it, even if you're non-native.

My experience with the latter is that Copywriting is something that many people actually scare away. 

I want to assure you that it doesn't have to.

Again, you have to understand, you are going to use Copywriting on your blogs, guides, and maybe in your emails, so the text won't be that long. 

Additionally, once you learn copywriting basics, you can apply them in every type of writing, you'll do on your website. 

And as with every type of writing, should the way of having your own blog appeal to you, business owners on freelancing platforms will appreciate your knowledge.

Writing for Non-Native Audience-Summary

If you are non-native English, but you aim to create financial freedom with affiliate marketing, you don't need to feel inferior.

Although it can be challenging, you can be successful. 

If you would aim for the English-speaking market (bigger with significant competition) or if you will target your mother tongue audience. 

The rules leading to successful online business are in both cases the same.

Find a niche, suitable affiliate products, an efficient traffic source, and your audience.

How do I find my niche?

Think about the topic, you would be happy to write for free. Another way of finding your niche could be, listen to the questions people ask you. Those would be things you have natural talent on, and therefore it will be easier to write about. Search for an angle that you will feel comfortable with and start writing.

How do I find affiliate products in my niche?

Type into Google your "niche" + affiliate products and you will have an idea of where to search further. In 2023 and beyond, it really is that easy.

How do I choose an efficient traffic source?

This will depend on your chosen niche. Some niches are suited for video content, some for spoken, and some for writing. As a rule of thumb, you can assume that starting a blog and one more traffic source (Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Podcast) is a great way to start.

How do I find my audience?

Search for the forums in your chosen niche and you will get an idea of what kind of people hang around there. Another way would be to imagine you're writing to your best friend. That way, your writing would feel much more natural and there is a high chance your content will be engaging for other people interested in your topic. Then you can use some tracking tool, for instance, Google Analytics, and use the data accordingly for your further campaigns.

they write for them rather than for the people.

Don't do the same mistake.

Who is going to read (hopefully) your posts, buy from you, or recommend your advice further?

PEOPLE.

They matter the most.

So, if you want to have people visiting your site, then write for them and not for you. 

The best thing is to imagine your best friend as someone who will read your post. 

Try it and you'll see it works. Every time when I do read the content of a successful blogger, it feels like my eyes are glued to the text. Keep reading after you, and try to achieve the same. 

So, that would be helpful and valuable content. 

How do you create SEO-friendly blog posts?

I follow the so-called 21 Minutes SEO ranking and it does its job.

Of course, there are other methods and you should revise your steps regularly as Google likes to spice things up with updates but if you would follow the method from above, your content should be up and ready to receive some clicks.

People Don’t Have The Right Know-How (Training Platform)

From whom you are going to learn AFFILIATE MARKETING can make difference between success and failure. 

Let's set this into the soccer world. 

Imagine you have a chance to train with Manchester United or with Portsmouth City.

Those are both English teams.

Which one you will choose? 

If you want to become a better soccer player, you will undoubtedly choose the former.

While Affiliate marketing is a bit trickier, mostly due to "gurus" who will guarantee you overnight success, if you spend some time learning, you will know which platform is the right one.

Platforms that will teach you are those with actionable tips, great community, and fast support. You need to apply what you are going to learn. 

Also, you should feel motivated along the way. 

The best way is to hear other people's stories.

Lastly, you need mentors or a support team who will provide you with the right advice and tools when you feel stuck.

On the other side, platforms you don't want to go for are those that are costly. A secondary bad sign is platforms, that build their success with extensive use of paid advertisement. 

In general, those platforms will teach you the same way, and therefore, they encourage you to pay for ads.

As a starter, you don't want to do that.

Obviously, you will lose money. 

Moreover, you will lose your faith and there we go. 

You'll start proclaiming the loser's mantra: AFFILIATE MARKETING DOESN'T WORK.

People Don’t Know How to Build a Functional Website

Apart from the wrong sources of information, people often fail to be successful because they don't know how to create a website.

Plenty of beginners, firmly believe that they can succeed without a website.

Let me put that straight.

If you want to have LONG-TERM SUCCESS WITH AFFILIATE MARKETING, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A WEBSITE.

The second huge mistake is, people don't know how to create a functional website.

Either they think it's super hard, or they overthink. 

In the present times, you really can create your website in less than 60 seconds.

So, why the heck make things complicated?

For those who don't know this yet, of the easiest ways is:

1) create an account on WordPress and then 2)buy hosting in one of the hosting platforms, like BlueHost.

3) If you want to go for a higher level, you can check site builder software like Thrive Themes for instance and you can start.

By no means, place ads on your newly built website. 

Also, try to stay away from any side banners, widgets, or responsive gadgets.

There will be time, later on, to try these. 

Namely, when you will have an audience.

Remember: first things first.

People Don’t Have The Right Attitude

Well, well, well!

Where this wrong attitude is coming from?

Apart from the "gurus" luring people to buy "their guaranteed money machine program", there is something about human behavior.

We want everything FAST and QUICK.

Want to lose 5 kg? It has to be within a week, otherwise, people don't want.

Want to find an ideal partner? It better happens during this month, because next month, there is another date on the calendar.

Earn a million $$$ online?

Well, it has to be this year.

Waiting is so boring. 

Sounds familiar?

While I don't think that waiting is the solution here, there must be some level of patience built into your system, before you can rip off some success. 

Whenever people decide to start a new project, there is this huge expectation. 

How much they will earn, how they going to fire their boss, how they going to travel the world...

Only to find out that after 6 months of trying and without seeing the profit on their accounts, those people find themselves again in their daily job in the worse case, or chasing another shiny object in the worst case.

So instead of hoping for overnight success, with a push-a-button strategy, selling crappy products, take the opposite direction.

Almost every successful affiliate marketer had to try and fail for a year to make it. 

So, don't believe Jono Armstrong and such that you can do it quickly.

People Are Not Willing to Learn Other Stuff Than To Affiliate Marketing

Let me tell you, that when I started in 2018, I thought the same as the crowd.

Affiliate Marketing is just writing some content, placing links, and then enjoying the drinks on the beach. 

If you think the same, change that mindset really quickly. 

Affiliate Marketing is way more than just affiliate marketing. 

Copywriting, Email Marketing, Social Marketing, SEO, Video Marketing...

When I say some of my students to learn Copywriting, they are like:

"I don't want to learn Copywriting, I am not a salesman. Teach me Affiliate Marketing instead!"

If you like it or not, affiliate marketing is also selling. 

It's indirect, but you also have to make the deal, at the end of the day. 

Otherwise, you have a hobby and not a business.

Being lazy to learn skills that belong to AM, is another huge reason why 99% would sack at it.

People Don’t Know What to Sell

Regarding the previous paragraph, I could name this part HOW to sell rather than WHAT to sell, but...

First things, first. You remember, right?

I don't want to be annoying, but yeah the structure pals.

What to sell? 

In other words: choosing a niche is also where many people have it wrong. 

You see, they will choose a topic because it is "in", they see big earning potential, or because there is no competition.

Let me tell you why this approach is wrong.

Firstly, what is "in" in 2023, might be easily out in 2025. 

If you don't know what I mean, try to sell DVDs and tell me how you're doing. 

Just joking.

Seriously, you want to have your business to be long-lasting.

Secondly, there is really no big earning potential or low earning potential. 

Nowadays, in the internet era, you can earn on everything.

I know a guy who is selling garden dwarfs and he is a millionaire. 

What about another guy, a colleague of my girlfriend? That geek sells miniature soccer players. 

There are thousands of niches.

Lastly, and you won't be happy to hear that, it doesn't matter what niche you will go after, there is always going to be competition.

Sure, the dwarf-selling guy's competition lake would have fewer fishes, like let's say affiliate marketer promoting fitness, but there will be competition for him anyway.

So, what is the right approach here?

Maybe, this will sound to you like a cliche, but it really works.

Do what you love.

I know, it sounds simple. 

But it is. 

Why you should aim for that? 

Because, when you will reach the times when you want to watch Netflix, grab a beer with your pal Ted, or sleep, instead of writing your blog post, you'll get easier to it, when it'll be something you love.

Also, people feel when you"FAKE" your interest.

On the other side, they sense when you put all your heart into it.

Isn't that all about life in that?

People Don’t Know How to Get Traffic a.k.a Lack of Visitors

Apart from being inconsistent in their writing, the biggest issue why people will not succeed in affiliate marketing is TRAFFIC.

The even better description that fits this is LACK OF TRAFFIC.

Website traffic, or clicks, is the lifeblood of any site. 

More clicks means usually more sales.

But here is a paradox. 

When it comes to traffic sources, more is less.  

Allow me to explain.

As more traffic sources you want to focus on, the higher chance that you fail.

You see, the biggest numbers of affiliates are a one-man business. 

In the beginning, that one person, won't have time to divide the activity equally into 5-6 traffic methods.

If this person would have the time, the result would suck. 

I mean, if you have FULL-TIME availability, which I don't think any of you have, you will have to spend this time on 1-2 traffic sources.

Example out of real life: 6-8 hours it takes to write a well-researched, SEO-optimised blog post of one of my mentors. 

He creates a blog post a day.

So how much time does he have over? 

Exactly, for 1-2 videos a week.

That's what he was doing at the beginning of his career. 

Blogging and videos. 

Nothing more, just 2 traffic sources. Now, he earns 5 figures a month and lives a life on his terms, but he could easily quit, should he try to control the 6 headed snakes, you try sometimes.

The quality matters, not the quantity. 

Pick up 1-2 methods and stick with them. 

When you master it (meaning automate it) and you have regular click flow, then you can brighten your horizons and conquer new lands.

In a Summary

So what to write at the end?

Firstly, I hope you don't feel offended, if I called you lazy, because I did also call myself lazy. We as a human are lazy.

But seriously, if you want to achieve financial freedom Affiliate Marketing can definitely help you. 

But don't start if you are not ready to sacrifice for it. 

Charles Bukowski once said: (About writing):

“If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start.“

The same applies here. 

There will be some bad days when you feel the website is crap, no one is visiting and no one is buying. But eventually, if you put that hard work in there, you make it happen.

But If you want to get paid for all your expenses, your groceries, your rent, and even your vacation, there are several ways. Apart from winning the lottery, the most convenient method for everyone is passive income.

The only thing you need to choose the right way and then stick to it.
