How Does Freelancer.com work?

As mentioned previously, Freelancer.com is sort of a global crowdsourcing marketplace website, which allows potential employers to post jobs that freelancers can then bid to complete.

Signing up and using the site is straightforward, and there are plenty of jobs available in a wide range of categories.

Jobs posted on the site include both fixed-price and hourly projects, with payments being made through the site's escrow system.

Once a job has been awarded, freelancers have a set amount of time to complete the work and submit it to the employer for approval.

In case, you are using FREE membership (more about memberships later on) bear in mind, you will be charged a fee before being paid.

If the employer is happy with the work, they will release the payment to the freelancer; if not, they may request revisions or cancel the project entirely.

In either case, feedback is left for both parties to help improve the freelancer.com experience for everyone involved.

How to Get Started on Freelancer.com?

To get started on Freelancer.com, simply create an account and post a project or task.

Subsequently, you'll be able to view bids from freelancers and choose the one you want to work with.

Once the project is completed, you'll pay the freelancer and leave a review. That's it!

If you're a freelancer, you can browse projects and tasks to find ones that interest you.

When you find a project you want to work on, simply place a bid and wait for the client to choose you. Once the project is completed, the client will pay you and leave a review.

The steps when getting started on Freelancer.com are quick and easy:

1.) Create Your Account

2.) Create Your Profile

3.) Bid on Projects

How Can I get Work on Freelancer.com?

After you finished all your settings and you placed already some bids, you want to be sure that you get also picked up by project owners.

That's why you are reading this blog post, right? You want to get paid!

what is Freelancer.com

If you're a freelancer, the best way to get work on Freelancer.com is to browse through the projects and tasks that are posted and find ones that match your skill set.

You can then place a bid on the project or task, and if the client chooses you, you'll be able to begin working.

If you're a business or individual looking to hire a freelancer, you can browse through the profiles of freelancers on the site and find ones that match your needs.

You can then contact the freelancer directly to discuss the project or task. Once you've agreed on terms, you can create a contract and milestone payment so that the work can begin.

Some very important key elements that will help you to stand out on Freelancer.com:

  • Cover Letter For Individual Projects
It is safe to say that if you are going to use the same text for every job opportunity, that's the guaranteed way to sack. Therefore, forget copy and paste. Instead, sit down, think and write specific cover letter for each offer.

Put yourself in the shoes of the project owner. Would you choose someone who spent time to write you personally tailored message, or someone who's using robotic approach?
  • Low Scale Start When Not Having Reviews
I know that you'd like to start earning $100 per blog post if you are writer, or $500 for landing page, if you are web designer. Unfortunately, it isn't (always) working like this.

Unless, you have build successful portfolio of your work, you should start with humble acceptance of somewhat low scale payments and slowly work your way up.

One of the measures and criteria project owners choose the freelancers are REVIEWS. So, when you (successfully) accomplished fine amount of work, you'll be more likely to be picked for future projects.

In case, you want to earn money online with side hustle, you can join Appen or Remotasks. In case, you want to replace your full-time income, then online business is what you need.

How can I compete for work on Freelancer.com?

So far you've learned that when you find a project or task that you're interested in, you can place a bid on it.

Furthermore, your bid will include your proposed price for the work, as well as any other terms that you want to include.

The client will then review all of the bids and choose the freelancer that they want to work with.

Placing your bid and writing cover letter are first steps towards achieving success on Freelancer.com, but that's just start.

It is fair to say, that competition can be an issue on Freelancer.com and even so, earlier I suggested that you put your price down, this is not always the best approach.

In fact, let me tell you some of the points you should apply when you want to land your dreamed gig repeatedly.

  • Learn High Demand, Low Competition Task
Some 20 years ago, you could get plenty jobs, if you would master Photoshop, today's hits are elsewhere. Copywriting, SEO blogging, email marketing. Whatever task, you want to be sure it is in demand, has low competition and you are expert in it.
  • Don't Charge The Lowest Price
Even so, it can be tempting to under-charge your services, there will be always someone who is willing to charge less. Trust me, it is not worth. Rather focus on getting clients that demand and expect quality.
  • Determine One Task And Become an Expert in it
Rather than being "master of none", aim to become master at one specific task. Contrary to that are freelancers who are offering ghostwriting, copywriting, web design, social marketing, and email marketing in the same profile.
  • Define Your Desired Client
This goes hand-in-hand with the previous ones. Having your desired client helps when profiling yourself. Who you want to serve? What do they expect? What do they pay? Have this will help you work with specific target group and your work will be therefore seeing much more professional.
  • Do a Great Job
Undoubtedly, this is the most important piece of puzzle. When you finally land your dreamed client, you defined deadlines, work frame and your reward, finally there is the grand finale. Also, it is safe to say, that how you perform your job, this will define your future success on the platform.

    1. Thank you for taking the time for reading my post! Indeed, starting working on Freelancer.com can be done for free. The only thing, I do suggest is to be an expert or become one, in case you intend to use this or similar websites (like Fiverr.com). If you’d like to become a blogging expert, this platform will teach you that from A-Z in a very easy-to-follow manner.

  3. Hi Julius, I’ve never used Freelancer to work before but I’ve used it before to hire freelancers. Quite different from Fiverr I think because of the whole bidding process. I’ve not used for a while but has definitely served me well in the past. I definitely recommend it for people I think it’s good for everyone at some point to delegate and once you do I think between Fiverr and Freelancer there is no better.

I haven’t done any jobs here but on that note I think you probably have more opportunities if your willing to work for cheap enough and I think from there once you get your score up you can really start charging whatever you want.

    1. Hey Alex. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us. The bidding process in Freelancer.com is something that sets it apart from other similar websites. Which platform do you find easier to get the job on? It’s maybe hard for you to give a relevant answer as you used it for hiring people rather than doing the tasks yourself, but anyway, feel free to share your experience if you can. Indeed, once people will recognize your work, you can ask for a higher reward. Of course, in case your work has delivered what it promissed. Cheers
