How to get ranked in Google?When you write online, the chances are very high you’ve come across the big question…
Because like it or not, Google is still the major boss on the website traffic.
While on the other hand, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines( like DuckDuckGo) are getting anything from 15-30%.
So, you want to make sure, you are ”following the rules” and approach your writing to comply with them.
In fact, there are small changes you can make, to boost your visitors’ experience and to increase the chance they will come next time again, because that’s what you want, in the end, right?
Let me show you how to get ranked in Google, by just a small adjusting to your website content.
Including MY SECRET TIP.
Content
I know you heard that many times.
Create content with value and people would love your blog…
…but what does it mean to bring value?
I would say that value is a help. If you are going to help someone with something, then you are providing value, right?
Further on, I’d like to divide the content into 3 additional elements.
- Quality
- Length
- Structure
Quality means you want to help as much as you can. So simple is that, don’t try to complicate it.
The ideal length is anything above 1000 words. Studies are showing that the longer content, the better, but I’d warn you, that this is more likely to happen when you have traffic.
When you just building it, try to keep the amount above 1k, and you should be fine.
The structure is going to help you write quicker.
Further on, it is going to help your readers find the information quicker. Think about using different sizes of your headers, enough ”white spaces” and use paragraphs.
No one wants to read an essay when entering your blog unless you are writing for a university. People tend to skip lines, sometimes even chapters.
So if you want to keep them stuck on your text, you need to make it readable.

Therefore use the spacing and make the white the colour!
Keywords
When you are creating your content, you want to make sure that you use the right KEYWORDS.
Those could be just words, as well as key phrases, they all count as keywords. (Just pointing out for those starting out)
The good way to find which keyword has the potential to rank high is to use the right KEYWORD SEARCH TOOL.
Nowadays, there is a huge variety of options you can choose from when it comes to keyword research tools. Free as well, paid services are available.
I would suggest you go for a free version first( almost every program offers that option)and switch eventually to the paid version if you see it works for you.
I am using a Jaaxy keyword tool and I am pretty happy with it.
I do get to see the average search result, the amount of traffic I’ll get when I make it to the 1st google page, and as well the competition websites.
When I do find a relevant keyword, that is grammatically correct, I can see straight away, how high are my chances to get ranked.
You see, Jaaxy is using metrics like AVG(Average Search Results) and QSR( Quoted Search Results).
So, if I want to find a perfect keyword, I WANT TO KEEP MY AVG ABOVE 100 AND MY QSR BELOW 100.
Pictures( Including My Secret Tip)
Using Pictures and/or videos is one of the most decisive aspects when it comes to user experience;
The right usage of them will secure your readability. On the other hand, if you will not manage it correctly, it can send you to hell… Well, not you literally, but your traffic!

Which one is more appealing to you?

When you upload relevant pictures to your blog post, the half job is done. Or the bigger part is done. To optimize the pictures you have chosen, you want to do a small little thingy…
That is…
…to fill in the ALT DESCRIPTION with your keyword.
This small adjustment makes a huge difference.
Just filling your KEYWORD into the alternative box by every picture on your blog and you are good to get ranked in google.
Links
You might heart about the links already.
There is all sort of links, the important thing to boosting your traffic is internal and external links.
The right usage of those links is another key element of how to get ranked in Google.
External links should link to the high authority websites, ideally from the first google page and they should be related to your topic, right?
In other words, if you write about how to make money, the right source to link would be something like Forbes, Investopedia for instance.
On the other hand, it would make no sense if you link to Healthline, even that website is an authority, but in a totally different niche, therefore linking to it would be less appropriate.
The same is valid for internal links within your blog content.
Try to find links somewhat related to your topic.
Coming from the fact, that you have narrowed down your niche, it shouldn’t be an issue.
SEO on Site
Use Meta Description.
This is extra space that google gives to boost your ranking. You want to make sure, that you are going to use it.
What should be in?
Definitely your keyword. And other, relevant and engaging content up to 160 words.
Make sure that your keyword is in the title.
A simple thing, but yet many people forgot or just don’t do it.
You don’t want to make this mistake.
Use LSI (Latent Semanting Indexing) Keywords.
Those are keywords related to your initial keyword.
You will find those on the bottom of the first page results of Google.
How you can use them?
Try to implement some of them within your blog post.
It’s giving a hint to Google that, ya this guy knows the topic very well. Therefore you are ready to get ranked.
Use Tags.
Lastly, I would take care of the TAGS. You can think of them as the categories your blog post is about.
So, let’s say you want to write about how to get top-ranking on google, then you might want to tag it with words like, ”SEO”, ”Google Rankings”, ”Keywords”.
In addition to previous TIPS, this is going to improve your Google website ranking.
Site Speed
Furthermore, there is speed.
If you wonder how to get ranked in google, make sure your site speed is as good as it can be.
(This part can be very technical if you are not that type, me neither lol, you want to have the right number of useful plugins doing the job for you.)

Hi Julius, I agree with you that these are the 6 main topics to cover your SEO. Yet, I still find it difficult to do it the right way. Sometimes I am so sure an article I wrote had all the elements right and still it does ‘nothing’. Do you experience that as well at times or are all your articles ranking?
I also find it difficult that a page of a website should show right on both computers and mobile phones. Those are so different in behavior and appearance.
Anyway, doubt is the hardest feeling, isn’t it. So I keep on going and just hope that in the end, I’ll be alright. After all, patience does good as well, I guess. 🙂

However, there are other elements like site authority, your frequency of writing, and people engagement, which are also defining how well your site is ranking. As much as I’ve read about Google rankings it’s always nice to refresh my memory from a new perspective! I’m pretty solid on writing more than 1k words, I typically write between 2k-3k. Luckily, writing comes naturally to me. However, with images, I usually leave the Alt Text blank. I’ll try filling it in from now on and going back to my past articles to see if I start to notice a difference!
I also know my site speed needs improvement according to Google but when I check it on my laptop or phone it loads fine. I’ve opened the article you linked in a new tab and I’m excited to read more into it. I’ve done a lot of design for my site but I’m not a professional in the technical details that could help improve my site speed for others.

One of your tips I am going to use and go and fix a blog post, which was linking to external sites, I just did a post that I linked to a site that really did not fit in with my niche. I thought about it when I did it but went with it anyway. Your post made me rethink that. 🙂

I mean as closer to your actual topic as better. So people are able to more connect with the topic you are writing about. On the other hand, if you link to the website with a huge authority, but off-topic it won’t hurt your site, just for the audience, it is always better to be closer to the topic. Yes, site speed is a very important metric for how to rank high on google. With Google changing their metrics, you have to check their updates more often, but this one will stay their high importance forever I guess, so you want to be sure your site is as fast as it can be. I think you’ve laid out some important information about getting google ranked. I try to make sure I am doing each of them. However, I have to admit that I don’t do the secret tip of filling out the alt description for my pictures. I will definitely start adding that and hopefully see my ranking go up. I did have one question about adding and using plugins. I thought you don’t want to have too many plugins on your site…what do you say is an ideal number of plugins that can be effective and not slow down your site speed? Thanks for the insight!

Thanks, for stopping by. This small adjustment improved my rankings drastically, so I would highly recommend you start doing it as well. As well, consider adding it to your older posts and then re-inspect your URL, with the google search console, as otherwise the change might be not recognized by google.
There is general advice on having 5-6 plugins on your website, although I know it is very challenging also for successful bloggers. In reality, it is about the QUALITY more than about the QUANTITY. You want to make sure, that the plugins on your website are performing an important role, otherwise delete them. I had a personal experience where I added 2 plugins (the one suggested at the end of my post) and deleted none and my website speed increased dramatically. I hope this helped.

Thanks for this refresher and a few new tips.
Two issues I find include connecting to an external website and the number of plugins. I have been told that whenever you connect to an external website that you add “No Follow”? Is this true? I would have thought that was the whole idea for having that external link was for the reader to be able to go to that site. .
The second issue deals with the number of plugins. The number of plugins is sometimes directly linked to your Theme and getting rid of any of them would affect the overall functionality of your site.
I am going to revamp my site using your six tips and hopefully will see improvement.

Thanks a lot for leaving your comment and question. I am really happy, that my post let you refresh your mind and knowledge about how to get top ranking in google. You should do worry about ”nofollow” links just if you received payment or other sponsorship when linking to the particular website or article.
That is basically Google’s way how to protect others from spamming the comments areas for instance, with their own advertisement. Basically, you want to tell Google that they shouldn’t Page Rank the particular link.
The second question about the plugins. I think that majority if not all themes are coming with just the basic plugin, that is the WP editor. The rest is up to you, which one you want to add or not. Even the AIOSEO is not mandatory, you can stick with Yoast for instance. You are right that the number of plugins can affect the functionality of the website, but more in terms of speed like anything else. Then again, you want to take care you have just quality plugins. The actual number is not that important. My recommendation would be to have the 3 plugins I shared at the end of my post as a must.
