Long tail keywords can be the toughest ones because of the length (obviously), but also deciding what you think are the right one and the most important.

Rather than short, one-worded keywords. Mostly, because they are what we call low-hanging fruit. In other words, there is less competition, when using long tail keywords. However, for people that might have trouble finding the right long tail keywords, I would suggest using alphabet soup, the technique taught in the Jaaxy keyword tool. I love the Backlink analysis feature of the Mark Thompson Long Tail Pro since backlinks are so important in SEO but the cost may be a factor. As you rightly stated, there are other alternatives that offer similar features at a lower price but this tool is pretty good.
I checked out the Google Keyword Planner which is a free tool. But there is a catch to it because to use this tool you must have a Google Ads account. While you don’t have to run an active campaign to use the Keyword Planner, you must at least set up a Google Adwords campaign. Too cumbersome for my liking! I like the Jaaxy Pro bundled offer with affiliate marketing training. This can be very helpful for people starting out online.

Jaaxy tool is perfect, as it offers great features (enough for one blogger or small business) and it comes together with amazing affiliate training.
Backlinks are a perfect strategy to boost your rankings, at the same time, I would highly discourage anyone to pay for them(unless you are clear with the sponsored links). Google can be very strict with this, and if they find this out, your website will be penalized. Strategies like buy 500 backlinks for amount A, or B, are common, but I wouldn’t recommend them.
